Top grade GT models are equipped with the above, plus full leather upholstery and heated front seats, panoramic glass roof, HID Xenon headlights, Hands-Free Telephone (HFT), and automatic headlights and wipers. GT models are available with optional DVD Satellite Navigation.

Honda�s new petrol-electric coupe, the CR-Z, is being readied for Type R treatment, and Auto Express can bring you the first exclusive images of how the hot new model is shaping up.Revealed in production trim at this January�s Detroit Motor Show, the CR-Z has already caused quite a stir by marrying a sporty three-door body with a fuel efficient hybrid powertrain � creating the world�s first truly desirable sports hybrid in the process. But the Japanese firm is going one step further with this stunning Type R version, which boasts a raft of head-turning design cues, and a more powerful hybrid powertrain under the skin.

A tarmac-hugging bodykit will create a clear definition between the standard car and this high-performance variant, and includes daytime running lights in the front apron and a black rear diffuser with integrated exhaust pipes. But it�s the colour scheme that will be most recogniseable to Type R fans.

A black bonnet, wing mirrors and wheels set against an alpine-white paint scheme will make the CR-Z stand out in a crowd. Blacked-out A-pillars are a new styling cue - giving the impression of a glass area that wraps around the car.

The standard CR-Z uses a 102bhp 1.5-litre engine coupled to a 20bhp electric motor for a total output of just 122bhp - but the Type-R is set to offer much more than that! Mugen, Honda�s official tuning arm, is reportedly being lined-up to work its magic on the CR-Z and boost its performance credentials.

There had been rumours that a reworked version of the Civic Type R�s 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine could make it into the CR-Z Type-R, but because the coupe has been designed as a hybrid from the outset, a petrol-electric powertrain is a must.

The front-wheel drive layout and six-speed manual gearbox will remain, but expect the naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre engine to be cranked up to around 150bhp and mated to a larger 50bhp electric motor. The combined output of 200bhp will move the Type-R into serious performance territory with a 0-60mph time of close to six seconds, three seconds faster than the 122bhp CR-Z, and a top speed of 140mph.

The standard car�s three driving modes will also be extended to four, to include an additional Sport Plus setting. Select it and the throttle response, steering, timing of the stop-start system and the level of assitance from the electric motor will be set for maximum performance. Upgraded brakes and stiffened suspension will complete the package.

Our sources have revealed that the CR-Z Type R is already being prepared for a debut at next year�s Tokyo Motor Show before going on sale in Japan in late 2011. UK sales are set to commence a few months after that with prices starting from around �20,000.

Government Scrappage Scheme Extended for Honda new car sales.

Barretts Honda of Canterbury, Kent are pleased to announce that the government has announced that its car scrappage scheme is being extended by �100m or a further 100,000 vehicles.

The government has also announced that it will also lengthen the cut off point for the old cars being traded in by six months.

Meanwhile, van owners will be able to trade in their old commercial vehicle if it is more than eight years old, rather than the previous 10. The newly extended government scrappage allowance means that vans and commercial vehicles can be traded in against new Honda cars.

The government says the changes will come into effect as soon as possible, once formal agreement has been reached with all the vehicle manufacturers.

You may have heard or seen in the press of a recall to the Honda Jazz in the UK.

HONDA JAZZ RECALL STATEMENT

Honda (UK) is to contact 171,372 owners of the Jazz (2002-2008 year model), to arrange an examination of the master power window switch, as part of a voluntary safety recall.

The master window switch in the driver�s door can malfunction when exposed to large amounts of liquid ingress, for example if the window is left open frequently or for long periods during heavy rain. Water and other fluids can cause the window switch�s circuit board to malfunction and prevent opening or closing of the window. In rare cases, the circuit board can overheat causing melting or smoke or, potentially, fire.

It�s expected that around 10 per cent of the cars recalled will need a replacement switch, with the remainder requiring the fitment of a waterproof skirt to prevent further water entry.

Honda (UK) will begin contacting those Jazz owners affected by the recall in March, in order to have the rectification work carried out. In all cases the work will be carried out at no cost to the customer.

Our 'agony uncle' explains how Honda's versatile little hatchback took his fancy, while two Jazz-owning Telegraph readers describe why it's the car for them.

Versatile, small, frugal and built in Swindon. What's not to love about the Honda Jazz? The little car has its flaws but, according to the hundreds of Telegraph readers who own one, the faults are mostly minor and forgivable.

In fact, so many of you have written to Motoring to praise your Honda hatchback over the years, we felt it was time to celebrate this unassuming hero of the roads with a look at its popularity through the eyes of its owners, including a couple who each have one, and the person who recommends buying a Jazz more than anyone: our own automotive agony uncle, Honest John.

Perhaps most impressively, the Jazz is a brilliant piece of car interior design. It sits the driver and passenger on the fuel tank, and leaves floor space where the tank would normally be. Lift up the rear seat squabs and instead of petrol there is space in the centre of the car for pot plants, bicycles, wheelchairs and small children to get changed standing up. Ford, Fiat, Citro�n, Toyota and everyone else all wish they'd thought of that.

When the car was launched in 2002, Honda fitted a 1,339cc chain-cam direct-injected petrol engine that proved to be as economical as a diesel, and offered the option of a seven-ratio continuously variable transmission (CVT) that can be treated as a simple "press and go" automatic.

Unsurprisingly, the car caught on in Britain in a somewhat older market than in other parts of the world such as Thailand, where it is seen as a trendy young person's car and there is even a magazine devoted to outrageously customised Jazzes with 19in wheels, powerful sound systems and even gull-wing doors.

But now, despite having come top of reliability surveys, the original Jazz is starting to age and, sad to say, it shows. Manual gearbox bearings break and, if the very special fluid in the CVT transmission is not changed regularly, that fails too. The ride quality and steering were never brilliant � the original Jazz was never a car you wanted to extend for the fun of it. Maintenance can get expensive as the cars get older; rear door seals leak, wheel bearings fail. Air-conditioning and electric windows can also give trouble.

Don't buy a Jazz that is six or seven years old and expect it to remain fault-free. Seven years is the Japanese scrap-by date. In Britain, the best engine we got was the 82bhp 1.3 (called a 1.4 for marketing reasons). That was until last year, when an all-new Jazz arrived. This Mk2 is much better looking, more powerful, a bit bigger and shares the "magic" rear seats of the original. It steers more precisely and rides and handles better, too.

Instead of the easy-driving CVT, however, in a failed attempt to keep emissions under 121g/km (and in the �35 tax bracket), Honda fitted an automated manual transmission that has found far less favour because of the way its electronics damp the throttle between changes, leading to lurching if the driver tries to compensate. And if you want a spare wheel, you have to pay extra for it.

From October 2009, this new Jazz has been built at Swindon alongside Honda Civics (where, intriguingly, it is also assembled as a 120bhp 1.5 with a five-speed torque converter automatic for the South African market � a model for which many British Jazz fans would give their left feet).

Barretts Honda's Jazz tops residuals tables.

Barretts Honda of Canterbury are pleased to announce that the Honda Jazz is Britain�s best car for retaining its value according to Parker�s annual depreciation report which surveyed almost 300 model ranges.

As well as class-leading residual values, the latest Jazz � which went on sale in 2008 � offers many features of a bigger car such as load space, driving feel and high-spec equipment, but with the great fuel economy, low emissions and more affordable running costs of a small one, making it ideal for car leasing and contract hire customers.

And the Japanese carmaker can afford to be pretty smug at the moment, with its newly-launched CR-V set to boost the residuals at the larger end of the Honda model line-up. The 2.2-litre ES, likely to be the most popular variant, has a residual value of 39.1 per cent based on 3 years or 60,000 miles. Its nearest competitor, the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 Sport TDi, comes in at 38.9 per cent.

Small cars showed they are certainly the safest bet for depreciation, taking 35 of the top 40 places in the index.

MOT Failure Rates Released.

An investigation shown on the BBC website by Martin Rosenbaum and a Freedom of Information request has resulted on the failure rates of cars going through their MOT test being made public.

The full report is available on the VOSA website, but Mr Rosenbaum has very kindly analysed those cars which were first used in 2004 and created the league table you see here.

Normally we like ourselves and our products to be at the top of any league table, but this is one league where we are very happy to let the competition fight for the top spot.

On Sunday 9th May 2010, east Kent will be whirring with the sound of wind through spokes as cyclists who like a personal challenge and a healthy day out raise money for Pilgrims Hospices.

The ride is aimed at all cyclists, but especially those looking for a personal cycling challenge who possibly haven't cycled 70 miles before.

The Honda Personal-Neo Urban Transport (P-NUT) design study model demonstrates a futuristic concept for an ultra-compact and sophisticated city coupe, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Conceived around a small "footprint" for maximum convenience in tight urban settings, the packaging concept integrates a center driving position configuration and a rear powertrain layout. The exterior styling leverages crisp angles with dynamic flowing lines that originate from the front of the vehicle and span outward toward the rear. The end result is a sleek and aggressive exterior that also allows for a spacious and open interior with excellent visibility.

"A new generation is discovering the benefits of living in urban centers that provide convenient access to business, entertainment and social opportunities," said Dave Marek, director of advanced design for Honda R&D Americas, Inc. "The Personal-Neo Urban Transport concept explores the packaging and design potential for a vehicle conceived exclusively around the city lifestyle."

The exterior styling is intended to capture a future direction for premium sophistication while balancing the need for maximum interior space and an aerodynamic appearance. The interior layout, in conjunction with the rear powertrain design, contributes prominently to the exterior's overall shape.

The layout of the interior space, with its center driving position flanked by two rear seats, provides generous legroom for all occupants, roughly the equivalent of a mid-sized sedan in a vehicle that has an exterior footprint similar to a micro car. Interior functionality is increased by rear seating areas that fold up and out of the way to increase storage capacity. The windshield serves as a heads-up display for the navigation system and the back-up camera.

The modular rear engine bay, depicted on the exterior by blue composite material, is designed to accommodate a wide variety of potential propulsion technologies including a conventional small displacement internal combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or a battery-electric powertrain.

"The objective of the exterior and interior designers was to explore the potential for a new type of small-segment-category vehicle that overcomes many of the objections for existing micro-car designs," said Marek. "While the Honda P-NUT concept introduces function-oriented concepts, it also shows that small cars don't have to compromise on style or amenities."

The Advanced Design Studio of Honda R&D Americas, Inc. in Los Angeles developed the P-NUT design study model. Honda R&D Americas began its operations in California in 1975 with local market research activities and has steadily grown its capabilities over the past 33 years to include all aspects of new vehicle research, design and development. Recent Honda-brand efforts include trend-setting products such as the Pilot, Ridgeline, Element, Civic Coupe and Civic Si Coupe.

Honda Civic named as most reliable car.

The biggest vehicle reliability survey in the country has named the Honda Civic as the most reliable car.

The survey, which quizzed the country�s largest fleet operators who between them run more than a million vehicles, saw the Civic take top position from its nearest rival the BMW 3 Series.

Honda and BMW were the only two carmakers on the leaderboard, which revealed that Honda made three of the top five most reliable cars and BMW the remaining two.

The results were a major endorsement for Honda, which saw its Jazz and Accord take third and fourth place respectively.

The new homemade Honda Jazz arrives this weekend at Barretts Honda in Canterbury, Kent.

Why homemade? Well the Jazz is now being made here at home at the manufacturing plant in Swindon.

This is a pretty big deal because its keeping 3,400 skilled workers busy.

And it's not just Honda staff hard at work. It's everyone else around them. Uniforms are being laundered, lunches cooked and hundreds of cups of Mr Tetley's finest brew made.
